Chairman's Note
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The ESCL activity calendar for 2025 is particularly rich and continues to energize our community, which grows more every day.
On February 19th, an interesting webinar was held on the topic of "As-built critical path" by Milan Peric and Frank Thomas. This was a particularly significant event within the already complex field of delay analysis, and it saw a high number of participants.
On April 29th, 2025, another webinar will take place on the topic of FIDIC Contracts under civil law, led by Dr. Jörn Zons. This webinar will outline the points of contact and friction between FIDIC standard contracts and continental legal systems, which are more used to the adoption of bespoke contracts and which often represent an external limit for FIDIC clauses. It is important to note that, for the first time, the webinar on April 29th will be held during lunchtime, at 12:00 PM CET, to better reconcile continuing professional development with everyone's schedules.
On May 28th, 2025, at 6:30 PM CET, another interesting webinar will be held by Raeesa Rawal and Jonathan Ripley-Evans on the topic of "The role of Mediation in Renewable Project Disputes".
Following this series of online events, it will be time for the ESCL Annual Conference, which, as you know, will be held in Naples on September 26th, 2025, and will be dedicated to the crucial theme of "Construction Projects and Cultural Context". Registrations are open, and we suggest you hurry as there are already several sign-ups, and the magnificent nineteenth-century villa overlooking the Gulf of Naples that will host us has limited capacity.
The day after the Conference, the first ESCL Workshop dedicated to "Cultural aspects in the use of ADR in construction" will be held by Virginie Colaiuta, Giovanni Di Folco, and Raeesa Rawal. This two-hour workshop will analyze (i) How to Resolve Disputes within the Realm of Public Works; (ii) Conflict Resolution in Culturally Diverse Construction Projects; (iii) Different litigating strategies for subcontractors, main contractors, and employers. Registrations are open for a maximum of 20 people.
The ESCL is also growing exponentially in its collaborations with other societies in the construction sector, and we are pleased to invite you to the upcoming DRBF International Conference, which will be held from May 14th to 16th in Cape Town. Details are available below.
Many initiatives have already been implemented, and many others are in the pipeline for the continuous development of our Society and for the in-depth study and discussion of the most relevant topics in the construction industry.
Best regards,
Roberto Panetta Chairman of Council, ESCL
